📐 Line from a slope and a point

If you know the slope and one point it passes through, point-slope form gives the equation of the line.

Equation of the line

  1. Point-slope form:
  2. y − y₀ = m(x − x₀)
  3. y = 3(x)
  4. Solve for y:
  5. y = 3x + 0 − 3·0 = 3x
  6. The line is y = 3x

Where it crosses the Y axis

  1. On the Y axis, x is 0. Substitute:
  2. y = f(0) = 0 → (0, 0)

Where it crosses the X axis

  1. On the X axis, y is 0. Solve:
  2. 3x = 0
  3. 3x = 0
  4. x = 0 / 3 = 0
