A Game to Practise the Tables from 1 to 10 Against the Clock
A maths game to master the times tables where they are really learned: fast, repeated practice. A multiplication appears (7 × 8) and you tap the correct answer among four, before the clock runs down. The wrong options are not random: they are the typical mistakes —the next row, one factor too many or too few— so getting it right means knowing it, not guessing by elimination. On hard, divisions come in too, to practise the table both ways.

Tables are not understood, they are automated: you must recall them instantly. The clock and the streaks reward exactly the speed of response, the skill that later calculation depends on.
Among the four options is the answer from the neighbouring row (7×8 versus 7×9) or from adding instead of multiplying. Facing those specific confusions is what corrects them.
Knowing that 7×8=56 is half of it; the other half is recognising that 56÷7=8. Hard level adds divisions so multiplication and division support each other.
"You see 7 × 8. The options: 56, 54, 63, 49. 63 is 7×9 (the next row) and 49 is 7×7: whoever hesitates lands there. The pupil taps 56 and builds a streak; if they miss, they see 7 × 8 = 56 at once."
Prefer to learn without screens? Try this analogue version:
Start with the easy ones: the 2, the 5 and the 10 times tables.
Learn one new table a week and review it shuffled, not in order.
Use the tricks: ×9 on your fingers, ×4 is double the double.
Practise them backwards too: if 6×7=42, then 42÷6=7.
If you like Times Tables, these activities work similar skills:
Filling in the 10×10 multiplication grid helps you see the patterns (the squares on the diagonal, the symmetry) instead of memorising isolated rows.
The same mechanic with no game clock and a final mark, to review calmly and spot which table lets you down.
Counting in 2s, in 5s, or working out how many wheels are on 6 cars turns the table into something with immediate use.
