Road Signs and Road Safety Game
A road safety game where traffic signs are built. You are told what a sign means —“No cycling”, “Minimum speed: 30 km/h”— and you build it by choosing the shape and the symbol, watching how it looks. The same bike goes on the warning triangle, the red prohibition circle and the blue mandatory circle, so the key is shape and colour. Other rounds sort four signs by type. On hard every shape comes in: STOP, give way, no entry, no stopping and no parking.

Red triangle, warning; red circle, prohibition; blue circle, mandatory; blue square, information. Whoever knows that rule understands a sign they have never seen.
Putting the sign together piece by piece means knowing which shape and symbol it has, not just recognising it among four options. And you see straight away how it changes when the shape changes.
One bar or a cross, a red or a blue circle with the same number: the game puts similar signs side by side and explains the difference.
"The task is to build “Minimum speed: 30 km/h”. The student picks the 30 and tries the red-bordered circle: on checking, the game shows the right one —the blue circle— and reminds them that blue commands and red forbids."
Prefer to learn without screens? Try this analogue version:
Take a short walk around the neighbourhood and photograph or draw the signs you find.
Sort them by shape and colour: warning, prohibition, mandatory, information.
For each one, write what a pedestrian or cyclist must do when they see it.
Make a map of the route with the signs and the most dangerous crossings.
If you like Sign by Sign, these activities work similar skills:
Review the rules for pedestrians, cyclists and passengers as a 10-question test with explanations.
Tuthor’s first aid game: what to do, and in which order, in an emergency.
Many councils and local police run hands-on road safety sessions for schools.
