🧠 Pedagogical Benefits

Categorical Thinking

Grouping words by category — animals, adjectives, irregular plurals, stressed syllables — activates deep semantic processing, which is the most resistant to forgetting.

Vocabulary in Context

Each question includes an explanation of why one word is different: gender, morphology, etymology or spelling rule. You learn the why, not just the what.

Calibrated Time Pressure

The cumulative timer — 60 s on Easy, 40 s on Medium, 25 s on Hard — creates just enough tension to activate working memory without blocking reasoning.

💡 Practical Example

"The words "quickly", "beauty", "love" and "truth" appear. Three are abstract nouns — only "quickly" is an adverb. The player identifies it, reads the explanation and moves on."

📝 Odd One Out on paper

Prefer to learn without screens? Try this analogue version:

  1. 1

Write 4 words on a card: 3 from the same semantic field or word class and 1 that does not fit.

  2. 2

Players point to the odd one out and explain why in 10 seconds.

  3. 3

Wrong guess = −1 point; correct guess with explanation = +2 points.

  4. 4

Vary the categories: animals, verbs, accented words, irregular plurals... Raise the level as players improve.
